String bikinis and other revealing clothes are common in surfing, though most surfing bikinis are more robust with more coverage than sunning bikinis.[202][203] Surfing Magazine printed a pictorial of Kymberly Herrin, Playboy Playmate March 1981, surfing in a revealing bikini, and eventually started an annual bikini issue.[204] The Association of Surfing Professionals often pairs female surf meets with bikini contests, an issue that divides the female pro-surfing community into two parts.[205] It has often been more profitable to win the bikini contest than the female surfing event.[206]

If you thought the Bahamas was all about oversized water parks, casinos, and swimming with feral pigs, think again. It's actually pretty luxurious if you've got the bucks to burn. Consider Musha Cay, a private island in the Exumas that boasts more than 700 acres of space for you and 24 of your besties. The property boasts a total of 12 bedrooms and 13.5 bathrooms spread throughout five homes, each with its own private beach, living, and dining areas. The daily rate covers up to 12 guests and all bookings have a five-night minimum. Included in the rates: ALL meals and beverages (including the fun beverages) and unlimited use of island equipment and activities. You will never be able to stay at Atlantis again.

Awesome article, thank ya! I’ve been to a few of these places — spent a few months in Chiang Mai years ago. I have also spent time in Varkala Beach (Kerala, India), which was a great place to get some Auyrvedic spa treatments and get my head right from the intensity of Northern India. Once I chilled there for a while, I was ready to go north again!

Mask & Snorkel- There is nothing worse than having equipment that don’t fit. This can cause panic and hysteria as bubbles and water seep in your mask. When renting equipment, make sure that your mask fits you. A general test is if you hold the mask to your face and breath in through your nose. If the mask seals perfectly and stays in place without you holding it then you have yourself a mask that fits perfectly.
Across the lake from San Marcos is the notorious village of San Pedro de la Laguna where young backpackers and burn-out expat hippies go to escape reality for awhile. You will find fascinating Mayan villages and yoga retreats that dot the shores of the lake. This area of Guatemala has a perfect year-round temperate that hovers around 25 degrees Celsius during the day.
How committed are you to summer's crochet trend? Mildly, like only-buy-one-top-and-wear-it-on-a-summer-Friday committed, or full-blown, let's-make-everything-crochet committed? It seems like fashion brands are betting on the latter, as crochet bikinis and one-pieces once again rank highly among swimwear offerings this season. And you can choose your own adventure—or, rather, take on the trend: Go subtle with a crochet trim lining a triangle-top bikini, or embrace the texture with a fully crocheted one-piece. Just don't be surprised when you lock eyes with another crochet-loving beach-goer over the next few months.

Yes, as in that Brando. The Brando is, in fact, a resort built on an island that was owned by Marlon Brando. So, if you weren’t entirely sold on it before, you should be now. ($135,000 per night be damned!) Should you intend to book this joint, what you will get is 35 villas for a maximum of 82 guests. The rate is all-inclusive, meaning accommodations, meals, beverages, one spa treatment per guest, and select activities. Not included are transfers to the airport, premium wine/liquors, select off-island activities, additional spa treatments, and Godfather impressions on request.

I came across this article by accident & I was really glad to see Koh Phangan at first place. I’ve been going to Koh Phangan for the last 10 years & I was there for 6 months last year. I rented a gorgeous bungolow in jungle for 200$ per month (all inclusive including internet) & a scooter for 50$ per month. It is really a magical place, and definitely a digital nomad heaven.

Comfortable accommodations, an inviting courtyard, centrally located, many nearby restaurants, friendly atmosphere and the alluring blue Pacific Ocean along the Southern California coast...the only thing missing is you. All accommodations (see our room photo gallery) have been recently renovated and are tastefully decorated. All guests of the hotel enjoy complimentary parking, free wi-fi, air-conditioning, cable tv, in-room refrigerator, iron and ironing board. Additionally, all rooms are non-smoking.
The more recently added water slides are surprisingly fast and the absence of lifeguards makes for a chaotic and extra fun experience. The long, steep blue slide with the mad curve accelerates you to such a colossal speed that you feel like you are facing your imminent death as you zoom down. But it's safe, and everybody survives with a smile. Other highlights: a walk-through jungle; a panorama balloon; a huge pool with a sea vista background and a lagoon with some small slides in a jungle/cave setting. You'll find a wild mix of Germans, Poles and Czechs here since the nearby borders are all open: walking around Tropical Islands sometimes feels like witnessing an Eastern European modeling contest.
In Coronation of the Winner, a mosaic in the floor of a Roman villa in Sicily that dates from the Diocletian period (286–305 AD), young women participate in weightlifting, discus throwing, and running ball games dressed in bikini-like garments (technically bandeaukinis in modern lexicon).[9][28] The mosaic, found in the Sicilian Villa Romana del Casale, features ten maidens who have been anachronistically dubbed the "Bikini Girls".[29][30] Other Roman archaeological finds depict the goddess Venus in a similar garment. In Pompeii, depictions of Venus wearing a bikini were discovered in the Casa della Venere,[31][32][33] in the tablinum of the House of Julia Felix,[34] and in an atrium garden of Via Dell'Abbondanza.[35]
The 1,971-foot (601 m) Ocean Beach Municipal Pier, built in 1966, is the longest concrete pier in the world and the second longest ocean pier in California.[28] [29] The pier supports a restaurant and bait shop (Ocean Beach Pier Cafe), which is located about 200yd/.03m down the pier. It is open 24 hours a day. A concrete walkway spans part of the length of the 1 mile (1.6 km) beach.
Naturally, there are some amazing coral reefs for snorkeling and diving and pristine beaches (my favorite is Whitehaven Beach). Upon arrival, you’ll instantly see why this is one of the best tropical islands in the world — and why over half a million people visit a year. One of the most popular way to see the islands is via a multi-day sailing tour (which is what I did when I visited). It was an amazing experience — especially diving! Prices start around 450 AUD for multi-day sailing tours.

Ocean Beach City Beach is the main beach in the San Diego neighborhood of Ocean Beach. This is a wide sandy beach that has formed at the south side of the San Diego River mouth. Looking north you can see the neighborhood of Mission Beach on the other side of the rock jetties that protect the Mission Bay Entrance Channel. The southern view from City Beach is dominated by the Ocean Beach Pier which extends about a half-mile out into the Pacific Ocean. If you are visiting here for the first time you should walk out to the end of the pier to take in the view of the city. Below the pier and south of it you’ll find extensive tide pools that are exposed at low tide.
Stretch nylon bikini briefs and bras complemented the adolescent boutique fashions of the 1960s, allowing those to be minimal.[104] DuPont introduced lycra (DuPont's name for spandex) in the same decade.[39] Spandex expanded the range of novelty fabrics available to designers which meant suits could be made to fit like a second skin without heavy linings.[105] "The advent of Lycra allowed more women to wear a bikini," wrote Kelly Killoren Bensimon, a former model and author of The Bikini Book, "It didn't sag, it didn't bag, and it concealed and revealed. It wasn't so much like lingerie anymore."[106] Increased reliance on stretch fabric led to simplified construction.[1] It allowed designers to create the string bikini, and allowed Rudi Gernreich to create the topless monokini.[107] Alternative swimwear fabrics such as velvet, leather, and crocheted squares surfaced in the early '70s.[1]
Have just discovered your blog today and love it! I am a student from NZ and want to travel to somewhere fantastic next year for a few weeks to get away from the hussle and bussle of study and work. Originally thought Thailand would be fantastic, and I see you agree with me here so great! But I also did not realise Bali was also so cheap. For a first trip overseas for a poor student (apart from Aus), where would you recommend? Bali or Thailand?

The Park and Cliff House Railroad ran west along California Street and then along the coast to turn south on 48th Avenue. This 36-inch (91 cm) narrow-gauge railway began service in 1887 with six 2-4-2T Baldwins (C/N 8955, 8961, 8973, 8974, 9065 & 9073). The company was reorganized as the Ferries and Cliff House Railroad with two more 2-4-2T Baldwins (C/N 9756 & 9763) built in 1889. These locomotives were widely distributed during the first decade of the 20th century. One went to the Diamond and Caldor Railway, one to the Oahu Railway and Land Company, one to the San Jose and Santa Clara Electric Company, one to the Glynn and Peterson Lumber Company, and two to the Red River Lumber Company in Westwood, California.[8]
On entering the hall, visitors choose between different basic admission options with different prices. Tropical Islands is divided into two main areas, each with its own admission price. Visitors can move from one area to the other by paying an additional daily charge. Additional charges also apply for areas such as the water slide tower (not always), crazy golf course, African Jungle Lift, evening show and internal accommodation area. The entertainment programme comprises a gala evening show, smaller shows during the day and various events.

A snorkel is a device used for breathing air from above the surface when the wearer's head is face downwards in the water with the mouth and the nose submerged. It may be either separate or integrated into a swimming or diving mask. The integrated version is only suitable for surface snorkelling, while the separate device may also be used for underwater activities such as spearfishing, freediving, finswimming, underwater hockey, underwater rugby and for surface breathing with scuba equipment. A swimmer's snorkel is a tube bent into a shape often resembling the letter "L" or "J", fitted with a mouthpiece at the lower end and constructed of light metal, rubber or plastic. The snorkel may come with a rubber loop or a plastic clip enabling the snorkel to be attached to the outside of the head strap of the diving mask. Although the snorkel may also be secured by tucking the tube between the mask-strap and the head, this alternative strategy can lead to physical discomfort, mask leakage or even snorkel loss.[2]
Mask:  Your mask should be able to stay on your face without the help of the straps; mask straps are just there to make sure the mask stays in the correct position. A simple way to test the fit of the mask is to place the mask on your face and draw air in through your nose. The mask should seal to your face when you inhale. i.e. the pressure should hold it in place. Look for Tempered glass - Plastic fogs up and standard glass is hazardous if accidentally broken. Desirable features: Feathered, double skirt silicone - Makes mask seal more reliable and comfortable, Wide strap with touch buckle adjustment - Mask adjusts quickly, easily and stay adjusted
At first, visitor numbers remained behind original estimates. For a cost-effective operation, 1.25 million visitors per year are required. In 2005, the resort lost between 10 and 20 million euros. By October 2006 there were about 600,000 visitors. The initial lack of visitors has been attributed to various reasons, including the relatively remote location of Tropical Islands. In addition, in Berlin, South Brandenburg, the direct surrounding area of the resort, the disposable income is below the national average. The target demographic of the resort was extended to attract visitors from further away, including Poland.
If you’re a newbie snorkeler, do not attempt to snorkel in a place that has a strong current. Instead, choose a place that has calm waters. Waves aren’t the best thing when snorkeling, specially when its your first time. It increases the effort you have to put in to get from one point to another. We suggest also going for a beach instead of jumping out of a boat as you can gradually swim towards a depth you are comfortable with.
If you still need to relax, try a full body treatment at the Palazzo Versace Spa, Salus Per Aquum. You can also book a dual treatment at the couples suite, a great idea if you are on your honeymoon in Australia. Dual massage beds and soft candlelight create an intimate setting for you to enjoy your choice of body treatment in the company of your partner.

Ursula Andress, appearing as Honey Rider in the 1962 British James Bond film, Dr. No, wore a white bikini, which became known as the "Dr. No bikini". It became one of the most famous bikinis of all time and an iconic moment in cinematic and fashion history.[97][98][99] Andress said that she owed her career to that white bikini, remarking, "This bikini made me into a success. As a result of starring in Dr. No as the first Bond girl, I was given the freedom to take my pick of future roles and to become financially independent."[97][100]
Finswimmers do not normally use snorkels with a sump valve, as they learn to blast clear the tube on most if not all exhalations, which keeps the water content in the tube to a minimum as the tube can be shaped for lower work of breathing, and elimination of water traps, allowing greater speed and lowering the stress of eventual swallowing of small quantities of water, which would impede their competition performance.[9]
If you're already making the trek to New Zealand, why not throw in a private island for good measure? This 5,000-acre working ship station/pine forest offers 13 private white sand beaches and a laundry list of fun stuff to do. Book it for up to 12 people and rates include helicopter transfers, all meals, on-island activities, and a hosting staff. Take note, though, that the owner lives there full time and each booking is subject to approval.
As the swimsuit was evolving, the underwear started to change. Between 1900 and 1940, swimsuit lengths followed the changes in underwear designs.[225] In the 1920s women started discarding the corset, while the Cadole company of Paris started developing something they called the "breast girdle".[226] During the Great Depression, panties and bras became softly constructed and were made of various elasticized yarns making underwear fit like a second skin. By 1930s underwear styles for both women and men were influenced by the new brief models of swimwear from Europe. Although the waistband was still above the navel, the leg openings of the panty brief were cut in an arc to rise from the crotch to the hip joint. The brief served as a template for most all variations of panties for the rest of the century.[227] Warner standardized the concept of Cup size in 1935. The first underwire bra was developed in 1938.[226] Beginning in the late thirties skants, a type of skanty men's briefs, were introduced, featuring very high-cut leg openings and a lower rise to the waistband.[227] Howard Hughes designed a push-up bra to be worn by Jane Russell in The Outlaw in 1943, although Russell stated in interviews that she never wore the 'contraption'. In 1950 Maidenform introduced the first official bust enhancing bra.[226]
During the late spring and summer, San Francisco's characteristic foggy weather frequently envelops the beach. The average temperature for the last 5 years has been 13.2 °C (55.8 °F)[1] However, the beach is popular with surfers and participants in bonfire parties.[citation needed] More beach-friendly weather occurs in late fall and early spring, when fog is less prevalent.

Kids rode the waterslides in endless loops; couples walked around in matching robes or napped in sync. On the lazy river jet stream channel, I read the words “Memento Mori” tattooed in a scripty font between the shoulder blades of the man in front of me. I ate a frozen yogurt at Café Borneo while an employee wearing a harness walked by. He was pulling a hot air balloon filled with guests.
The scuba diving equipment is more complex and heavier compared to that of snorkeling. It comprises a pressurized gas tank filled with Enriched Air Nitrox with extra oxygen: 36% oxygen and therefore less nitrogen to reduce decompression sickness. In the "single-hose" two-stage design, the first stage regulator reduces the cylinder pressure of about 200 bar (3000 psi) to an intermediate level of about 10 bar (145 psi). The second stage demand valve regulator, connected via a low pressure hose to the first stage, delivers the breathing gas at the correct ambient pressure to the diver's mouth and lungs. The diver's exhaled gases are exhausted directly to the environment as waste. The first stage typically has at least one outlet delivering breathing gas at unreduced tank pressure. This is connected to the diver's pressure gauge or computer, in order to show how much breathing gas remains.
Fury Water Adventures does not operate in unsafe weather conditions, but a light rain shower is not a deterrent. Monokini 1964 A monokini (also called topless swimsuit, unikini or numokini) is a women's one-piece garment equivalent to the lower half of a bikini.[142] Originally a specific design conceived by Rudi Gernreich in 1964, the term is now used to describe any topless swimsuit,[143] particularly a bikini bottom worn without a top.[144] An extreme version of the monokini, the thong-style pubikini (which exposed the pubic region), was also designed by Rudi Gernreich in 1985.[145][146]
It's the beach we lived across for 15 years and still love this place. Parking is okay but on sunny weekends it becomes quite challenging. Great to see the locals out surfing. Not cool to see people smoking marijuana in cars and on the beach, especially with kids around. The city can do better with the trash can maintenance. It's always overflowing when we go there. Aside from that enjoy the beautiful sunsets, a game of beach volleyball or just a stroll on the beach. Our dogs loved the sand but not so much on windy days.
As a result of a short period with an unusually high number of snorkeling deaths in Hawaii there is some suspicion that the design of the masks can result in buildup of excess CO2. It is far from certain that the masks are at fault, but the state of Hawaii has begun to track the equipment being used in cases of snorkeling fatalities. Besides the possibility that the masks, or at least some brands of the mask, are a cause other theories include the possibility that the masks make snorkeling accessible to people who have difficulty with traditional snorkeling equipment. That ease of access may result in more snorkelers who lack experience or have underlying medical conditions, possibly exacerbating problems that are unrelated to the type of equipment being used.[62]

Beautiful beach with a very large and diverse demographic of visitors, although I do think it leans more towards the younger side. Lots of surfers, potheads, tourists, families, retirees, beggars, and high school/college aged students. It's a very stereotypical SoCal experience with the numerous blondes and dreads everywhere, the smell of weed and ocean water in the air, and the crazy beautiful beach with a stunning sunset.
Following a brief stint as a refugee camp after the 1906 earthquake, the area was touted as a resort. A small amusement park, Playland at the Beach, was built where Cabrillo and Balboa streets now end. Major development occurred in the 1920s and 1930s with construction of the Great Highway and housing in the adjacent Sunset and Richmond Districts. After the destruction of the Sutro Baths in 1966, the neighborhood lost its resort appeal; the amusement park was also torn down in 1972, to be replaced by apartment blocks and a supermarket in the 1990s.

I unzipped my tent, which looked like the ones I’d seen a few weeks before when watching Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. Inside, the otherwise unremarkable heat became overwhelming. T.I. had largely emptied, but because the dome functions like a gigantic echo chamber it felt like I was camping inside a soccer stadium with a game going. Condensation pitter-pattered down on one corner of my tent from hundreds of feet above. Before I finally passed out, I heard the anguished cry of a single flamingo.

Hi Kyle… interesting roundup. I’ve been to most of the places you mention over the past twelve years — the period of time I have been living as a “global gypsy.” I know San Marcos well, love the Oaxaca coast, used to really love my village in Goa until the tourists discovered it, and I really love Africa — for those who want a chill cheap life, Swaziland is an interesting choice, hugged by South Africa and Mozambique. It home to the Bushfire Festival, one of the most acclaimed music/ art/ culture/festivals in the world. I also really love Kenya and the beautiful Diani Beach. Ok, here’s my current situation: I have grown weary (and older!) of living out of a backpack and am currently looking for a base. I have also accidentally adopted a rescue dog and am traveling with him. As such I need a beach destination with calm waters b/c he loves to swim — so Oaxaca is out. I also make and sell jewelry so some tourists are needed. I am currently on Roatan and it is just not resonating. It is more expensive than I expected and doesn’t seem to have that sort of “mindful” community I prefer. So… any suggestions? I’m really stymied… I sometimes feel there is such a thing as too much freedom… peace and out.

Northern California beaches. They tend to be cold and windy, and Ocean Beach is no exception. There are those glorious warm days that happen a few times per year in the Fall. If you choose this location for a photo shoot make sure that you wear layers at this location. And arm yourself with hair ties and clips, because it can get windy. Take it from me, a family photographer (K. Sienk Photography)! One cool feature that I really love about this beach as the graffiti on the walls towards the north end. Pros: Not crowded Parking is easy Large beautiful beach Cons: Windy Cold Not a lot of variety Great for: Family photo sessions, mini sessions, maternity sessions, milestone sessions in the first year, weekday and weekend sessions, toddlers who like to run around. Not good for: trying to avoid wind. www.ksienkphotography.com

On my way to T.I., a twenty-four-hour vacation felt absurdly short. But in the bubble, time stretched and slowed. After dinner, I went to the sauna and spa complex, where there were crystals the size of kindergarteners and a gigantic stone elephant cribbed from an 8th century Indian temple. The flamingos hadn’t moved, but mice scurried across the jungle trails. In the lagoon, kids drunk on being up past their bedtime shrieked and swam.
The Virgin Islands are divided into the U.S. Virgin Islands, which are comprised of St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas, and the British Virgin Islands, made up of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke, along with numerous smaller islands and cays. All are part of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. On the U.S. side, St. Croix is the charming, historic, culturally diverse island, St. John is the favored eco-friendly destination, and St. Thomas is the chic and sophisticated island. On the British side, the islands are less developed, but more exclusive, catering to wealthy luxury travelers and sailing enthusiasts.
I've been to a lot of beaches, and this is one of the more beautiful beaches in California. And it wasn't crowded, the people here are friendly and the beach looks very clean. There are Mountain Views on the north side of the beach and many cafés surrounding on the east. You should come out and enjoy a day of fun! There was also a lot of parking and bathroom so very assessable facilities.
Tropical Islands Resort is a tropical theme park located in the former Brand-Briesen Airfield in Halbe, municipality in the district of Dahme-Spreewald in Brandenburg, Germany, 50 kilometres from the southern boundary of Berlin.[1] It is housed in a former airship hangar (known as the Aerium), the biggest free-standing hall in the world. The hall belonged to the company Cargolifter until its insolvency in 2002.
To measure your foot length, sit down on a chair and place your foot flat on a piece of paper. Trace the foot by holding a pencil vertically and outlining the foot. The longest toe and back of heel are the most important measurements. Using a ruler, measure the distance from the bottom of the heel to the tip of the longest toe. Record the result in both inches and centimeters and use these measurements to find your size in the chart. If one foot is larger than the other, the measurements for the larger foot should be used.

As soon as I think of travel, it’s not long before my mind drifts to white sand beaches, azure blue water, and palm trees in tropical locales. When most people think of paradise, chances are they’re thinking of tropical islands is far-flung corners of the world. Lounging with a good book, drinking from coconuts, soaking up the rays. Does it get any better than that?

However, the FIVB's mandating of the bikini ran into problems. Some sports officials consider it exploitative and impractical in colder weather.[175] It also drew the ire of some athletes.[181] At the 2006 Asian Games at Doha, Qatar, only one Muslim country – Iraq – fielded a team in the beach volleyball competition because of concerns that the uniform was inappropriate. They refused to wear bikinis.[182] The weather during the evening games in 2012 London Olympics was so cold that the players sometimes had to wear shirts and leggings.[183] Earlier in 2012, FIVB had announced it would allow shorts (maximum length 3 cm (1.2 in) above the knee) and sleeved tops at the games. Richard Baker, the federation spokesperson, said that "many of these countries have religious and cultural requirements so the uniform needed to be more flexible".[184]

I really liked the atmosphere in Kaohsiung and Kenting, Taiwan as well as Yeosu, South Korea. I enjoyed their beaches, fast wi-fi, and laid back vibe. Kaohsiung is a larger city, but is artsy. Kenting is a tad touristy and expensive, but made up for it with it’s beautiful secluded beaches. Yeosu also has a lot of tourists, but totally unique rock formations and numerous islands along the coast.

One of the most incredible coral atolls in the world, from the air – Fakarava resembles a giant donut sprinkled with the sweetest of candy. So pristine are its waters that Fakarava is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a title that draws thousands of scuba divers to its thin shores every year. But this is hardly a stressful place and you don’t need to be a scuba diver to have an excuse to visit. With beautiful white and pink sand beaches where you might spot Robinson Crusoe preparing lunch – Fakarava is a great place to relax and forget about life. Its small local population will be happy to show you around, and if you just happen to visit on a Sunday – don’t miss out on a visit to the local church!

By mid-morning, all the seafront beach chairs were overlaid with people or place-saving towels, so I checked out the upstairs sundeck. For such a large complex, the sandy beach was actually quite narrow, just a spit of sand ringing the wading pool in front of the sea. It reminded me of million-dollar Malibu beachfront homes where erosion has taken almost all of the sand, leaving behind just the idea of a beach. Still, I wasn’t immune to the satisfaction of being in a bikini in the indoor-outdoor world while regular, old February raged on outside, and there was a particular joy in swiping sand from my ankles as I readjusted.

Love this empty beach. When I mean empty, not as crowded as other beaches that I frequent. Parking is easy, there's lots of space and the best part is that it's free! A great place to relax or take a walk. If you are heading to the Sutro Baths, make sure to drop by here first. I did and enjoyed it. I'll be back again when in the area. Maybe set up and enjoy one of their fire pits. From the first time I visited here to my most recent, nothing has really changed, which is great. It's good to know some towns maintain a calmness.
In most cases you need to have boots on the ground to find the really cheap long-term accommodations. Online locals usually jack up their prices to get the 1 to 2 weekers who will pay $1000s for a nice place. To get yourself started, you can find places as cheap as $29/night on AirBNB (try VRBO too) and you can negotiate those prices much lower if you’re staying long term and it’s outside the busy tourist season. I usually start with AirBNB and then ask around to find the cheaper places when I get to know some locals.
While this is not a tropical island, it is one of the most beautiful beaches in central America, so it made the list anyway. Located on the northeast corner of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, the Mayan Riviera offers stunning Caribbean views, powder-fine sand, warm azur water to swim in and some of the best all-inclusive beach resorts in the world. You’ll find incredible snorkeling and diving just off the coastline, and a plethora of adventure sports and activities, not to mention a very active nightlife. There are dozens of Mayan archaeological sites, like Tulum and Chichen Itza, as well as hidden underground cenotes to explore.
Archaeologist James Mellaart described the earliest bikini-like costume in Çatalhöyük, Anatolia in the Chalcolithic era (around 5600 BC), where a mother goddess is depicted astride two leopards wearing a costume somewhat like a bikini.[8][26] The two-piece swimsuit can be traced back to the Greco-Roman world, where bikini-like garments worn by women athletes are depicted on urns and paintings dating back to 1400 BC.[27]
