The Park and Cliff House Railroad ran west along California Street and then along the coast to turn south on 48th Avenue. This 36-inch (91 cm) narrow-gauge railway began service in 1887 with six 2-4-2T Baldwins (C/N 8955, 8961, 8973, 8974, 9065 & 9073). The company was reorganized as the Ferries and Cliff House Railroad with two more 2-4-2T Baldwins (C/N 9756 & 9763) built in 1889. These locomotives were widely distributed during the first decade of the 20th century. One went to the Diamond and Caldor Railway, one to the Oahu Railway and Land Company, one to the San Jose and Santa Clara Electric Company, one to the Glynn and Peterson Lumber Company, and two to the Red River Lumber Company in Westwood, California.[8]
Just north of Point Loma, this small beach town is a favorite among locals who spend their days surfing, sunbathing around the pier, hanging out in their vintage VW vans, and strolling through the many surf shops, taco stands and antique malls. Ocean Beach has a throw-back groovy vibe of vintage SoCal, coupled with friendly locals, great dining and micro brews, and a vibrant nightlife scene.

For most parts of the Middle East, bikinis are either banned or is highly controversial. In 1966, In 1973, when Lebanese magazine Ash-Shabaka printed a bikini-clad woman on the cover they had to make a second version with only the face of the model.[125] In 2011, Huda Naccache (Miss Earth 2011), when she posed for the cover of Lilac (based in Israel) became the first bikini-clad Arab model on the cover of an Arabic magazine.[126][127][128]
Beautiful beach with a very large and diverse demographic of visitors, although I do think it leans more towards the younger side. Lots of surfers, potheads, tourists, families, retirees, beggars, and high school/college aged students. It's a very stereotypical SoCal experience with the numerous blondes and dreads everywhere, the smell of weed and ocean water in the air, and the crazy beautiful beach with a stunning sunset.
These little coral islands are surrounded by excellent diving, snorkeling, and white sand beaches, and are filled with friendly locals. Private resorts litter the islands, and a vacation here is also very pricey. Luckily, Bangkok Airways offers cheap flights to and from Thailand. The best time to go to the Maldives is from November to May, when the weather is cool and dry. June through October sees wetter and hotter weather due to the monsoon season.
Indian women wear bikinis when they vacation abroad or in Goa without the family. Despite the conservative ideas prevalent in India, bikinis have become more popular. In summer, when women take up swimming, often in a public space, a lot of tankinis, shorts and single-piece swimsuits are sold.[121] The maximum sales for bikinis happen in the winter, the honeymoon season.[121]
Tropical Islands Resort features a full-service spa, a water park, 2 outdoor swimming pools, and 2 indoor swimming pools. Dining is available at one of the resort's 5 restaurants and guests can grab coffee at the coffee shop/café. Guests can unwind with a drink at one of the resort's bars, which include 4 bars/lounges and a beach bar. Wireless Internet access is complimentary.
Mazunte, Zipolite and Puerto Escondido are the three coolest beach towns I’ve found in Mexico. The Oaxacan Coast (pronounced wa-hah-kah) has a peaceful tropical ambiance, largely because it’s relatively off-the-beaten-track location far from high-traffic international destinations like Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. The nearby ecotourism hotspot Huatulco has a big airport but nothing like the other major resorts in Mexico.
Secluded private island hideaways were built to offer vacationers what they can’t find anywhere else: a castaway-like experience that makes you feel completely connected to the ocean. Some of the islands offer ultra-luxury villas with private pools while others are more unassuming and built to blend with nature. At night, stroll along the sandy beach, feet touching the sand, and gaze up at the incredible night sky. Yasawa Island Resort, located in the remote Yasawa Group, is an incredible place for scuba diving, secluded beach picnics and beaches dotted with palm trees. A common problem with all mechanical clearing mechanisms is their tendency to fail if infrequently used, or if stored for long periods, or through environmental fouling, or owing to lack of maintenance. Many also either slightly increase the flow resistance of the snorkel, or provide a small water trap, which retains a little water in the tube after clearing.[10]

By mid-morning, all the seafront beach chairs were overlaid with people or place-saving towels, so I checked out the upstairs sundeck. For such a large complex, the sandy beach was actually quite narrow, just a spit of sand ringing the wading pool in front of the sea. It reminded me of million-dollar Malibu beachfront homes where erosion has taken almost all of the sand, leaving behind just the idea of a beach. Still, I wasn’t immune to the satisfaction of being in a bikini in the indoor-outdoor world while regular, old February raged on outside, and there was a particular joy in swiping sand from my ankles as I readjusted.
Though this country has some 322 islands, less than a third are inhabited. Most of the action happens in the western islands, but no matter where you go, this is heaven. Any time the name Fiji is heard, visions of beaches and tropical ocean dance in people’s head. There’s a good reason for that – because this place is one of the best places to go in the world, and with so many islands, you’re bound to find one you like.

Snorkeling requires much less equipment; a mask that allows you to see the wonders of the underwater world, and a snorkeling breathing tube, typically 16 inches long, that allows you to submerge your face in the water while still being able to access the air above. Some snorkelers may want to use foot fins as well to move faster and with less effort on the surface.

Year-round, the 100-foot in-water visibility is enough to lure snorkelers to the reefs of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Winter only sweetens the pot: December through February, scores of humpback whales come to the Caribbean to mate or give birth, and the Columbus Passage between the islands of Grand Turk and Salt Cay is on their migratory route. This stretch, shallow and warm, is an ideal training grounds for momma to teach baby about breathing and other whale-life basics — making it also ideal to behold greatness underwater.
Translated as the “mouth of the bull” this archipelago of islands sits just south of the Costa Rican town of Puerto Viejo where the mighty rivers flow from the tall mountains in Northern Panama’s rugged interior cordillera. The laid back Caribbean atmosphere in the main town of Bocas Del Toro is seductive and not surprisingly, it has attracted its fair share of adventurous digital nomads and expats.

The community has actively opposed chain businesses opening in Ocean Beach, and only a few exist there.[16] In the 1970s, community protests led a chain of donut stores to drop its plans to open a store in O.B. In 2000 an Exxon station abandoned its attempt to open a gas station there.[21] In 2001, an organized grassroots effort attempted unsuccessfully to block Starbucks from opening a coffee shop in Ocean Beach.[22]

The Baths on Virgin Gorda are a must for any visitor to the island—although it's best to get there early in the morning or the late afternoon to dodge overcrowding by cruise ship tours. Gigantic granite boulders form a series of natural tidal pools filled with a myriad of grottoes and tunnels to explore. The further from the shore you go, the better the coral and sea life is.

On a Galapagos cruise you take a journey through the archipelago, stopping at a range of uninhabited islands. You dock at coves and beaches that are inaccessible by land, which is where guests often find that the true charm of nature is entirely uninterrupted. You swim and snorkel at reefs that only the guides know about and where their knowledge directs you to hangouts for turtles and blacktip reef shark nurseries. The guides are always in the water with you. And their keen eyes help uncover the camouflage that lies below, directing you to marine wonders that you might have otherwise completely missed.
In Europe, 17-year-old Brigitte Bardot wore scanty bikinis (by contemporary standards) in the French film Manina, la fille sans voiles ("Manina, the girl unveiled"). The promotion for the film, released in France in March 1953, drew more attention to Bardot's bikinis than to the film itself. By the time the film was released in the United States in 1958 it was re-titled Manina, the Girl in the Bikini. Bardot was also photographed wearing a bikini on the beach during the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. Working with her husband and agent Roger Vadim she garnered significant attention with photographs of her wearing a bikini on every beach in the south of France.[92]

OB reminds me of the days of old in San Francisco. This beach along with its surrounding neighborhood (the sunset) are a lovely time capsule of this ever changing city. Sure, the parking lots are a little gritty and full of transient vans, beach bums but, there's something charming about it. The best parts of this beach are the surfing, ability to build a bonfire and parts of the beach that are dog friendly. Plus, you have close access to Beach Chalet and other neighboring small businesses. It definitely feels like you're in a small beach town with an ever present surfing community. Do yourself a favor and visit this spot on a sunny day. Although rare, they do exist and it makes for a wonderful day.
Certain types of underwear are described as bikini underwear and designed for men and women. For women, bikini or bikini-style underwear is underwear that is similar in size and form to a regular bikini. It can refer to virtually any undergarment that provides less coverage to the midriff than lingerie, panties or knickers,[219] especially suited to clothing such as crop tops. For men, bikini briefs are undergarments that are smaller and more revealing than men's classic briefs. Men's bikini briefs can be low- or high-side that are usually lower than true waist, often at hips, and usually have no access pouch or flap, legs bands at tops of thighs.[220] String bikini briefs have front and rear sections that meet in the crotch but not at the waistband, with no fabric on the side of the legs.[221]
While technically a subtropical island, the Azores make for a great getaway if you’re looking for something beyond the standard resort getaway. The islands boast tons of hiking and beautiful nature. Rent a car and explore the winding roads of the main island, São Miguel Island, taking it secluded beaches and picturesque waterfalls. Best of all, it’s close to both Europe and North America and makes for a great stopover point if you’re traveling between the two.

These statues, which average 13 feet in height and weigh about 14 tons, were created between the 10th and 16th century by the early inhabitants of the island. These monolithic stone heads are baffling to researchers who cannot figure out why the Rapa Nui people went through such enormous efforts to create them or how they carved them with primitive tools. Another lingering question is what happened to the Rapa Nui people? Rapa Nui’s early inhabitants came from other Polynesian island to this one to build a unique culture away from any influences. One theory is that they may have built these statues to honor their ancestors but had to leave once they had completely depleted the island resources. Once a thriving culture, Rapa Nui is today almost barren, with no trees and most of its soil being washed away in erosion. All that is left are these enormous monuments as a reminder of human achievement and resilience.
In 1950, American swimsuit mogul Fred Cole, owner of Cole of California, told Time that bikinis were designed for "diminutive Gallic women", as because "French girls have short legs... swimsuits have to be hiked up at the sides to make their legs look longer."[38] In 1961, The New York Times reported the opinion that the bikini is permissible for people are not "too fat or too thin".[207] In the 1960s etiquette writer Emily Post decreed that "[A bikini] is for perfect figures only, and for the very young."[208] In The Bikini Book by Kelly Killoren Bensimon, swimwear designer Norma Kamali says, "Anyone with a tummy" should not wear a bikini.[208] Since then, a number of bikini designers including Malia Mills have encouraged women of all ages and body types to take up the style.[209] The 1970s saw the rise of the lean ideal of female body and figures like Cheryl Tiegs. Her figure remained in vogue in the 21st century.[210]

The country was granted independence in 1976 and quickly became a popular playground for jetsetters, movie stars and honeymooners. The biggest and most developed islands are Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. Mahe is the largest and arguably the most beautiful, with a dramatic mix of rugged mountains densely covered with tropical old growth rainforests and 65 brilliant white sandy beaches. The island is full of small hidden coves and bays to provide solitude, and has a range of excellent hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars, cafés and casinos. The capital city of Victoria, one of the smallest capitals in the world, is the Seychelles business and cultural hub and can be easily explored by foot in less than a day.

Looks like you’ve been to some amazing places! I’ve been researching many of these locations because I teach music lessons remotely over Skype, Google Hangouts, and Vsee. Problem is, I generally need REALLY fast internet to have decent connections and it needs to be residential as I can’t bring my saxophone to the local wifi cafe 🙂 I’ve been reading that fibre optic will soon be offered in the US Virgin Islands, but it doesn’t appear to be at this moment. Have you heard of any tropical islands that fit your description of being more mindfulness oriented that also have fast residential service in the range of 30/5 download/upload speed? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch.

The total length, inner diameter and/or inner volume of a snorkel tube are matters of utmost importance because they affect the user's ability to breathe normally while swimming or floating head downwards on the surface of the water. These dimensions also have implications for the user's ability to blow residual water out of the tube when surfacing. An overlong snorkel tube may cause breathing resistance, while an overwide tube may prove hard to clear of water. A high-volume tube is liable to encourage a build-up of stale air, including exhaled carbon dioxide, because it constitutes respiratory dead space.

At first, visitor numbers remained behind original estimates. For a cost-effective operation, 1.25 million visitors per year are required. In 2005, the resort lost between 10 and 20 million euros. By October 2006 there were about 600,000 visitors. The initial lack of visitors has been attributed to various reasons, including the relatively remote location of Tropical Islands. In addition, in Berlin, South Brandenburg, the direct surrounding area of the resort, the disposable income is below the national average. The target demographic of the resort was extended to attract visitors from further away, including Poland.
Stretch nylon bikini briefs and bras complemented the adolescent boutique fashions of the 1960s, allowing those to be minimal.[104] DuPont introduced lycra (DuPont's name for spandex) in the same decade.[39] Spandex expanded the range of novelty fabrics available to designers which meant suits could be made to fit like a second skin without heavy linings.[105] "The advent of Lycra allowed more women to wear a bikini," wrote Kelly Killoren Bensimon, a former model and author of The Bikini Book, "It didn't sag, it didn't bag, and it concealed and revealed. It wasn't so much like lingerie anymore."[106] Increased reliance on stretch fabric led to simplified construction.[1] It allowed designers to create the string bikini, and allowed Rudi Gernreich to create the topless monokini.[107] Alternative swimwear fabrics such as velvet, leather, and crocheted squares surfaced in the early '70s.[1]

The word island derives from Middle English iland, from Old English igland (from ig or ieg, similarly meaning 'island' when used independently, and -land carrying its contemporary meaning; cf. Dutch eiland ("island"), German Eiland ("small island")). However, the spelling of the word was modified in the 15th century because of a false etymology caused by an incorrect association with the etymologically unrelated Old French loanword isle, which itself comes from the Latin word insula.[3][4] Old English ieg is actually a cognate of Swedish ö and German Aue, and related to Latin aqua (water).[5]

In recent years Vietnam has been challenging Thailand’s status as the mecca for digital nomads. While many are flocking to cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the beachside town of Hoi An, which translates as “peaceful meeting place”, is very nice. The old town is a UNESCO world heritage and a well-preserved remnant of the town’s influence as a spice trading port from 15th to 19th century.
A tropical sea, sandy beach and palm trees - this is written in a home page of Tropical Island. OK - there si no sea, just few pools with sweet water - 2 inside and L outside (in the winter time), wild river outside. In pools some atrrcations for small kids and some tobogans. most areas are tropical plants and trees, shops, automats, restaurans. Small part of area is wellness with some sanunas, possibility of massage(for extra payment of course). Sauna rituals are abut nothing . You will not receive towel , you must bring your own or pay for 3,5EUR to rent. You have to pay for lockable cupboard - capacity for 2-3 peoples (winter time). Sandy beach - sand was cold and wet. On the other side I must say that environment was excellent. Ok - my opinion - it wasd very nice to see this, but this is not aquapark , just overpriced botanic garden. My opinion is based on the experience of visiting in the winter.
The Exumas of the Bahamas were probably the very first islands that took our breath away. We had been to many before, but when looking out the windows of our twin otter plane, we were stunned by the beauty of these 365 atolls in the middle the Caribbean Sea. To me, this photograph captures what the most beautiful tropical island pictures should be. Check out: Dream Trip, Exuma Cays Bahamas

Unlike its luxurious Caribbean neighbors, here you’ll only find more budget-friendly hotels and guesthouses. Everything needs to come by ship or airplane, so it’s not super cheap. However, since no non-natives can own property there is no influx of overdevelopment, keeping the island simple but beautiful. For a more rustic, non-touristy getaway, this might be the island for you!

Snorkeling is a very popular sport for the young and old alike. Masks, snorkels, and fins provide comfort and freedom to swim and dive like a fish. But you must learn the use of each to achieve full enjoyment. Each item has an important function of its own. It should be emphasized that in any sport, the broader your knowledge and understanding, the better. It is strongly advised that you practice first in shallow water or a pool to get used to the equipment and gain confidence. Snorkeling is a wonderful activity that can be enjoyed by almost anyone. Basic snorkeling gear, along with a body of water and an hour of time is all that anyone needs to become a snorkeler. If you haven't already, give it a try - you'll love the new world beneath the water!

I came to this beach numerous times during my trip to San Francisco and each time, it was fairly quiet and super clean. During the day, we walked down the hill from Land's End (couldn't hike it since it was closed off due to the govt shut down) passing the Cliff House. On separate visits, I was able to enjoy the sunset and long walks along the water. This isn't something I do often (or ever, tbh) since NY beaches are pretty filthy and cannot compare at all. If you're lucky, you'll get to see all of the sand dollars on the shore. Parking spaces around here are tough to snag, but not impossible. You'll just need a bit of patience, but its worth it.
Some of the most spectacular scenery can be found in the Maldives which have been the location for filming world famous movies. This is the place for overwater bungalows where you can jump in and swim with the fish as much as your heart desires. Check into Angsana Velavaru which is fronted by powdery white sand. You will be able to enjoy stunning sunsets, relaxing massages and dinners over the water.

Oceanic islands are islands that do not sit on continental shelves. The vast majority are volcanic in origin, such as Saint Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean.[11] The few oceanic islands that are not volcanic are tectonic in origin and arise where plate movements have lifted up the ocean floor above the surface. Examples are Saint Peter and Paul Rocks in the Atlantic Ocean and Macquarie Island in the Pacific.
With the dredging and development of Mission Bay and the dismantling of the Ocean Beach-Mission Beach bridge, O.B. became geographically isolated from the rest of San Diego and the other beach communities, until the construction of Interstate 8 in 1967. The westernmost segment of I-8 from Interstate 5 to the terminus in Ocean Beach is officially labeled the "Ocean Beach Freeway".[13]
In 1997, Miss Maryland Jamie Fox became the first contestant in 50 years to compete in a two-piece swimsuit at the Miss America Pageant.[111] Actresses in action films like Blue Crush (2002) and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003) made the two-piece "the millennial equivalent of the power suit", according to Gina Bellafonte of The New York Times,[38]
