The number one draw to Curacao is watersports, particularly diving and snorkeling. Warm waters showcase coral gardens and sunken ships that are an underwater delight. Must-see locations are the Mushroom Forest and the sunken Superior Producer freighter, along with the Blue Room cave. Snorkelers will find their heaven off Playa Lagun.Beachgoers will enjoy other popular beaches at Playa Porto Marie, CasAbao, and tranquil Blauwbaai. Willemstad is divided by St. Anna Bay. It can be crossed on Queen Emma, a floating pedestrian bridge, to see thepostcard-worthy Colonial Dutch buildings of the Punda side.KuráHulanda Museum is a solemn remembrance of the 18th-century African slave trade.
Kids rode the waterslides in endless loops; couples walked around in matching robes or napped in sync. On the lazy river jet stream channel, I read the words “Memento Mori” tattooed in a scripty font between the shoulder blades of the man in front of me. I ate a frozen yogurt at Café Borneo while an employee wearing a harness walked by. He was pulling a hot air balloon filled with guests.

Generally shallow reefs ranging from sea level to 1 to 4 meters (3 to 13 ft) are favored by snorkelers. Deeper reefs can also be explored, but repeated breath-holding to dive to those depths limits the number of practitioners, and raises the bar on the required fitness and skill level. Risk increases with increased depth and duration of the breath-hold excursions from the surface.
Just north of Point Loma, this small beach town is a favorite among locals who spend their days surfing, sunbathing around the pier, hanging out in their vintage VW vans, and strolling through the many surf shops, taco stands and antique malls. Ocean Beach has a throw-back groovy vibe of vintage SoCal, coupled with friendly locals, great dining and micro brews, and a vibrant nightlife scene.
Purposes Recreational purposes, including cave diving, wreck diving, and ice diving. Professional purposes, including for civil engineering, underwater welding, offshore construction or for military purposes. Recreational purposes include observing fish and algae and coral reefs especially in water bodies with minimal waves and warm waters; also interesting things to see near the water surface.
In 1993, Suzy Menkes, then Fashion Editor of the International Herald Tribune, suggested that women had begun to "revolt" against the "body ideal" and bikini "exposure." She wrote, "Significantly, on the beaches as on the streets, some of the youngest and prettiest women (who were once the only ones who dared to bare) seem to have decided that exposure is over." Nevertheless, professional beach volleyball player Gabrielle Reece, who competes in a bikini, claims that "confidence" alone can make a bikini sexy. One survey commissioned by Diet Chef, a UK home delivery service, reported by The Today Show and ridiculed by More magazine, showed that women should stop wearing bikinis by the age of 47.
In 1950, American swimsuit mogul Fred Cole, owner of Cole of California, told Time that bikinis were designed for "diminutive Gallic women", as because "French girls have short legs... swimsuits have to be hiked up at the sides to make their legs look longer." In 1961, The New York Times reported the opinion that the bikini is permissible for people are not "too fat or too thin". In the 1960s etiquette writer Emily Post decreed that "[A bikini] is for perfect figures only, and for the very young." In The Bikini Book by Kelly Killoren Bensimon, swimwear designer Norma Kamali says, "Anyone with a tummy" should not wear a bikini. Since then, a number of bikini designers including Malia Mills have encouraged women of all ages and body types to take up the style. The 1970s saw the rise of the lean ideal of female body and figures like Cheryl Tiegs. Her figure remained in vogue in the 21st century.

Amed is fantastic–it’s a small and sleepy village. There is snorkeling from the beach right into the water, and friendly people as usual. We even rented a boat from a local who took us out on the water for a couple of hours. I was a solo traveler and made friends in Caangu, from there we traveled to and stayed in Ubud and then Amed together. The three of us found fantastic accommodation in both places which was ridiculously inexpensive to share for the quality. It certainly pays to travel with others, and book stays as you go. In Amed, we luckily found a place high on the hill with an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. A bit of a hike to the room, but the view was worth it.
Rent fins that are neither too tight, nor too loose, and that don't hurt. Having a fin fall off when you most need it, is potentially very bad. And getting sores on your feet from fins that have hard spots or are too tight will ruin your time. Keep in mind that your feet will be wet, and will often shrink a little in the cooler water, and so a snug fit is important. Don't even think about not having fins. They are essential for safety. They give you a tremendous amount of swimming force and will save you a ton of energy. Read more about the different types of fins here.
I would recommend living on the beach in Srithanu (that’s where I lived and I really liked it). You can stay inexpensively at Shangri-La at the south end of the beach or ask at the Monkey Bar beside there if Kai has any places available. He rents a number of nice houses overlooking the ocean outside of town. Both those places have really fast Internet which I’m sure you will need! All the best deals can be found by going there and asking around. The stuff online usually charges tourist prices.
The Park and Cliff House Railroad ran west along California Street and then along the coast to turn south on 48th Avenue. This 36-inch (91 cm) narrow-gauge railway began service in 1887 with six 2-4-2T Baldwins (C/N 8955, 8961, 8973, 8974, 9065 & 9073). The company was reorganized as the Ferries and Cliff House Railroad with two more 2-4-2T Baldwins (C/N 9756 & 9763) built in 1889. These locomotives were widely distributed during the first decade of the 20th century. One went to the Diamond and Caldor Railway, one to the Oahu Railway and Land Company, one to the San Jose and Santa Clara Electric Company, one to the Glynn and Peterson Lumber Company, and two to the Red River Lumber Company in Westwood, California.
Older proprietary designs came with special facilities. One design separated the eyes and the nose into separate mask compartments to reduce fogging. Another enabled the user to remove integrated snorkels and insert plugs instead, thus converting the snorkel-mask into an ordinary diving mask. New-generation snorkel-masks enclose the nose and the mouth within an inner mask at the demand end directly connected to the single snorkel with its valve at the supply end.
1,200,000 people visited last year. 40% of them stayed overnight with an average stay of 2 nights. Day ticket prices start at €33; an overnight stay in a tent starts at €150. There are supposedly 10 flamingos in residence, but I only saw 9 during my stay. I emailed T.I. reps to see if there’d been a death. A representative assured me they only had a double digit count and said, “[N]ow and then one of them tiptoes around to explore the rest of the hall.” There are 275,000 balls in the children’s ball pit and I’m sad to report that I missed something called the Space Hole at the water playground where “guests slip into a funnel that slowly sucks them down.” The hall has 50,000 plants from 600 species and the work of 1 self-described “palace-slut” who moved to Bali from Australia in the seventies, renounced his name (Michael White), and went on to become a world-renowned tropical landscape architect, designing both David Bowie’s estate in Mustique and Tropical Islands’ lagoon before his death in 2016. I lasted about 22 hours.
During the day, we walked down the hill from Land's End (couldn't hike it since it was closed off due to the govt shut down) passing the Cliff House. On separate visits, I was able to enjoy the sunset and long walks along the water. This isn't something I do often (or ever, tbh) since NY beaches are pretty filthy and cannot compare at all. If you're lucky, you'll get to see all of the sand dollars on the shore.
Wowzers! Tahiti is beautiful! The sunset just completes the picture along with tahiti’s beautiful scenery! All of these destinations are extremely beautiful but my choice out of all of them would definitely be tahiti! I love tahiti because you get your own little hut to stay in! The huts are placed on top of the the bay of water and it would be so beautiful to wake up in the morning to an ocean right beside you! You’d look down and all you would see is ocean! Its so amazing how gorgeous things are! Tahiti will definitely be on my wish list of places to go in the future. Just need a little more money!

I lived for a month one winter at Las Piramides in the mellow village of San Marcos de la Laguna. At this incredible spiritual retreat, you get to live in your own glass-tipped pyramid in the jungle. They offer excellent programs in yoga and meditation that start with each full moon and run for the entire lunar month. The spectacular main pyramid where classes are held is along the beautiful shore of the lake.
Hard to get to, but well worth the effort, the Bazaruto Archipelago of Mozambique keeps us visiting and dreaming. Barely 22 miles off the east coast of Africa, this group of six islands (Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Bangue, Shell, and Santa Carolina) continue to top our "must-visit" list of places in the world. The entire area was declared a National Park in 1971 and hosts a plethora of snorkel and dive opportunities.
thailand in phuket maybe got around 20m but very urban area …..to teach sax you basically going to have to set up your own little teaching studio long term and your internet requirements are really going to limit you to very specific larger urban islands… believe me I’ve been learning about this the hardway , like I said my wife needs half way decent internet to work , we moving to a house in the jungle on Morro de Sao paulo in Brazil….you can get internet there , but try pinning down the one install guy on the island who has to shlepp down there to install it…..and my wife’s Brazilian so theres no communication barrier….if you can’t communicate in these places with such specific needs you really going to get fustrated quick. Make sure to bring at least two months cash to live off (at least) til you get everything sorted out
Palau, a nation of 250 islands in the western Pacific, is home to dozens of unusual seawater marine lakes connected to the ocean by tunnels and channels. Only one, Jellyfish Lake on Eil Malk, can be visited, and is filled with millions of—you guessed it—jellyfish. Floating through swarms of these gelatinous beings is definitely an out-of-body experience, but don't worry—their non-poisonous stings can hardly be felt.
When it comes to shopping in OB, don't miss The Black, a smoke shop that is also a neighborhood institution. Kind of a head shop/novelty/record store, The Black is like going back in time to the hippie decade. Ocean Beach Antique Mall on Newport Avenue is where to go for unique vintage finds and home goods. Sunshine Daydreams is a little boho-chic clothing boutique, and the Black Bead is a mecca for jewelry hobbyists.
Brian Hyland's novelty-song hit "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" became a Billboard No. 1 hit during the summer of 1960: the song tells a story about a young girl who is too shy to wear her new bikini on the beach, thinking it too risqué. Playboy first featured a bikini on its cover in 1962; the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue debut two years later featured Babette March in a white bikini on the cover.
In May 1946, fashion designer Jacques Heim from Paris released a two-piece swimsuit design that he named the Atome. Like swimsuits of the era, it covered the wearer's navel, and it failed to attract much attention. Clothing designer Louis Réard introduced his new, smaller design in July. He named the swimsuit after the Bikini Atoll, where the first public test of a nuclear bomb had taken place only four days before. His skimpy design was risque, exposing the wearer's navel and much of her buttocks. No runway model would wear it, so he hired a nude dancer from the Casino de Paris to model it at a review of swimsuit fashions.
